I ordered the tray for a ‘98 XJ . My battery is group size 34 . This tray is larger than my battery . It’s not going to fall out but there’s room for a bigger battery in this tray . I would say at least 1” bigger on all the dimensions , height , width , & length . This thing is heavy duty ! If you wreck your vehicle & it’s a total loss except for one thing , this will be that one thing !! I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I like for the battery to fit tight
Great product! Very well made! 4 star rating instead of 5 star because incorrect hardware was provided. You cant hand thread nylon insert stop nuts as required for installation. Other than that perfect!
Had to modify the top hold down strap.the top hold down strap was making contact with the upper radiator hose.
Good construction and solid installation. Thick steel and forms well to the body. Cons: Since it’s metal it is now a grounded spot and makes it dangerous around the positive post would be good to include rubber washers for bottom to keep it from grounding. The threaded rods are too tall and will need to be cut. The top cross piece rubs on the upper radiator hose, need to grind down corner
Great product. Only issue was on 2001 XJ, that it rubbed against the upper radiator hose so had to cut a corner so as to not have issues in the future.
The tray itself is fantastic but the hold down leaves a bit to be desired. As others have said the hold down itself rubes the upper radiator hose. This could be fixed on DBOs side of things by either getting rid of the logo completely or moving it to the top of the battery (mechanics perspective). Also, as others have said, the all-thread comes pretty mangled and requires grinding, filing or chasing to get the ends back in shape so that the provided nuts will thread on. So overall a decent product that could be great with a couple small changes on DBOs side of things.
Great upgrade. Would have liked 3/8” or 5/16” all thread included vs the 1/4” it came with.
The material is very good but the Battery Hold Down Bolts dosen't work for me is to much time put it on an off each time you have to change the battery I have to buy other style from auto zone more practical
Heavy Duty and easy to install
Solid product. Only thing I would change is the top piece because it bumps the upper rad hose. Just reverse the design so the thinner part is by the rad hose and the cnc’d logo is toward the back. All in all solid product will shop from you again.
The tray looks good and is definitely an upgrade. I must say that one of the threaded rods was badly cut and had to be recut to make a nut go over it. I was also supplied with 6 lock nuts which i think was not right (correct me if i’m wrong)
They forgot to ship the order on time. I have to send an email to remember . this product is very good.
First off I’d like to say I love dirt bound products and this battery tray is no different. The only issue I have with it is the all thread with nylock nuts. I had to hold the rod with a pair of vice grips to tighten the nuts. I may be modifying mine with a T slot design on the bottom of the tray with nylocks on top. Similar design to the factory box so the rod won’t spin.
Awesome tray and besides the pesky battery sensor, easy to install. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because of the top metal strap has a corner that rubs the top radiator hose. If that angle were fixed to avoid the hose this would easily be 5 stars. Otherwise, you just need to grind the strap down or protect the hose.
Pretty great, but needed some finishing work to fit. Dirtbound might want to revisit their templates and add some additional curvature around the base where it comes into contact with the body seam, and bove where the crossbar comes into contact with the radiator hose.
It’s nice and sturdy wish it was plated I will need to get it powder coated
So far as quality the welds are solid an the parts fit together nicely. The parts are bare unpainted steal. So this was not a one day install. I had to prime an paint the parts my self. Also the hole for the temperature sensor was on the far side so I had to drill a second one in the proper place in the left side of the tray. In addition I had to modify the hold down so it would not rub on the radiator hose. Mind even the much more expensive ones on the market would require the same modification. That is why I am only giving 3 stars. I did enjoy working on the whole thing, an I had an idea of what I was getting in to.
The allthread was a little short and had to clean up the threads in order to thread a nut on. Ended up buying a longer piece of all thread . I would recommend using lock washers and regular nuts instead of lock nuts
The bolts given aren’t the most user friendly. When it gets warmer, I’ll swap it in. But it’s definitely sturdy and ideal.
Quality is nice, but the installation wasn't quite bolt in, because the bolts were a little too long. So it required a little bit of filing the bolts. Did filing rather than buying new bolts. Otherwise it looks good and functions as it should.
